Ethical Trade

Ethical Trade refers to business practices that promote more socially and/or environmentally responsible trade. Recent years have seen the creation of a number of consumer-assurance schemes.

In order to identify solution to build consumer confidence in purchasing ethically traded products and services, an Ethical Trade Fact Finding Process (ETFFP) was set up in 2007. It was led by a Steering Group consisting of Consumers International, the French National Standards Body AFNOR, the Brazilian National Standards Body ABNT, the ISEAL Alliance and the Fair Trade organisations Fairtrade International and WFTO (Fair Trade Advocacy Office), with the Secretary of ISO COPOLCO as an observer.
